Empowering Underserved Music Markets with Zoe Espitia

Finding Music – and Opportunity – Around the World

Zoe Espitia’s story isn’t your standard industry tale. She grew up in Chicago, enamored with music thanks to her uncle, the “complete vinyl junkie.” In college, she majored in social work but admits, “I just chased music. Anywhere live music was, I was there… I spent all of my money that I worked hard on for live music shows.”

After a pivotal trip to Jamaica, Zoe Espitia unexpectedly found her calling. She recalls, “I went to an area called Negril… I searched for live entertainment, and what came up was this kid’s name, Dr. Seuss… someone, a local artist, gave me a CD and said, I want you to produce my music. And that started everything.”

What started as a side project soon blossomed into a business idea. “I said, listen…I want you to help me with this. I think this is going to be a huge industry. You know, nobody had started streaming… It was like the Titanic was sinking and nobody knew it yet, right? So we started it and we just knocked down every single store,” Zoe Espitia said of Zojak’s origin.

Music Distribution with a Personalized Touch

Unlike faceless digital distribution giants, Zojak Worldwide—under Zoe Espitia’s guidance—puts real people behind the process. “[We’ve] always maintained our accessibility… we still look for good music and we still look for good artists,” she emphasized, noting that Zojak prioritizes relationships, not just numbers.

Their approach is unique: “We have a whole team of people that do it… there’s about 25 of us, and we continue on that way.” Artists don’t just get dumped into a dashboard—they have access to a team who cares about their growth.

Distribution for Zojak means much more than uploads. “We…pick out our artists, or we have relationships with artists and their managers or their A&R execs. We cater to them, we help them grow,” Zoe Espitia explained. Zojak is both a distributor and a label, taking on artists at every stage and helping them reach new heights.

The Live Music Shift in a Post-COVID World

The pandemic changed how music is made, shared, and experienced—especially for younger artists. “[We] have a lot of young artists now that think live music is showing up to an appearance and getting paid for it, you know, or posting something on their social media and just showing up,” Zoe Espitia observed.

She worries some newer musicians are missing the magic that happens in small venues with real fans. “I chased music, I chased live music… and I don’t care who you are, live music is live music. If I like you and you’re live, I’m going to see you.”

There’s a whole new set of barriers, too—fear, discomfort, and digital disconnect. Bree Noble added, “Maybe the in person experience is so foreign to them… because they’re just used to dealing with people online that maybe it scares them to be in front of a crowd.”

How Zojak Supports Artists Today

Zojak’s offering is straightforward and supportive. Artists can sign up at Zojak Worldwide for $9.99/month, which “includes…UPC codes…marketing and promotion for free. If we like your track, we’ll even do more with it,” says Zoe Espitia.

Most importantly, Zojak stands apart because they care and act fast. “If you tell us something like [a metadata mistake], that gets fixed right away,” Zoe Espitia emphasized. Unlike larger platforms, Zojak makes personal support a core part of their artist experience.

Final Thoughts

In an industry that often feels impersonal and overwhelming, Zoe Espitia and Zojak Worldwide offer a refreshing, people-focused alternative for artists who want more than just an upload portal. Bree Noble summed it up: “You guys do a lot of extras, which is really nice…where you can talk to someone and get extra help.”
